No. The vast majority of hernias resolve with medication, rest, and physical therapy without the need for surgery. Surgery is recommended only if there is progressive weakness in the arm or leg, urinary or fecal incontinence, or severe pain that continues to impair quality of life despite weeks of treatment.
Not every headache is a sign of a tumor; the vast majority of these headaches are migraines or tension headaches. However, if the headache is accompanied by projectile vomiting in the morning, vision or speech disturbances, numbness or weakness on one side of the body, or an epileptic seizure, an MRI must be performed and a detailed evaluation conducted without delay.
Today, this risk is virtually nonexistent. Advanced microsurgical techniques (surgery performed under a microscope) and the use of neuromonitoring systems that track the condition of nerves second by second during surgery have maximized surgical safety.
No. A significant proportion of brain tumors are benign; they grow slowly and do not invade brain tissue. Treatment is determined based on the tumor’s size, type, and location in the brain. Some small, benign tumors can be monitored with regular MRI scans alone or controlled with targeted radiation therapy (radiosurgery/Gamma Knife) without the need for surgery.
The primary cause of numbness is usually a pinched nerve. Numbness in the hands is most often caused by a herniated disc in the neck or narrowing of the nerve canal in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome). An EMG (nerve conduction) test is used to identify the location of the compression. If there is severe compression and muscle weakness, a permanent solution is usually achieved by relieving pressure on the nerve through short surgical procedures performed under local anesthesia.
